The Mossley Academy team progressed to the 2nd Round of the NPLFA League Cup on Wednesday with a fine 4-3 victory over Ossett United s Joma Divison team.
Mossley started brightly and nearly scored in the first minute when breaking through on the left wing. Sila Cande's overhit cross just sailed over the bar with the Ossett goalkeeper helpless.
Mossley continued to play some excellent football creating some excellent chances before Joe Cooper took advantage of a goalkeeping error and opened the scoring in the 24th minute.
Mossley continued to force the pace and went into a two goal lead on the 30 mins with a well struck shot from Kyle Fitton, who then shot narrowly wide as half time approached.
Further chances came but Mossley were unable to add to their tally and went into the interval with a two goal lead.
Ossett started the 2nd half brightly but were stunned when Sila Cande scored Mossley's 3rd goal with the ball taking a wicked deflection. Play was fairly even then for a period before Ossett got a lifeline with a goal in the 75th minute.
Dylan Fitzgerald the scored his 9th goal of the season with a great curling shot into the far corner on 80 mins.
The Mossley boys took their foot off the gas then and allowed Ossett to score goals in the 84th and 85th min to cause a little panic in the ranks. However, the overworked Mossley defence held firm and progress to the 2nd round and a home tie against Carlton Town in mid February.
