Formed
in 1970 as Woodley Athletic in the Lancashire & Cheshire League, from
the mid 70's through to 1990 the club enjoyed a very successful period
winning league titles and several cups. Present Chairman Ian Campbell became involved in the club and he led them into the Manchester League in 1990 as team manager. In 1992 Woodley won the Manchester League Division One title and the following season won the Gylchryst Cup and came runners up in the Manchester League Premier Division. Campbell stepped from manager to chairman and work to enclose the ground began in 1996 and the following year they accepted into the North West Counties League. By this time the management team of John Imrie and Gary Lowe had been introduced with the side narrowly missing out on promotion in 1998 and 1999. In January 1999 Imrie left for Runcorn and Lowe took over as boss leading Woodley to the Division Two title on the last day of the season and promotion. However, Lowe then resigned to take the reins at neighbours Curzon Ashton and vice-chairman John Flanagan and former Mossley player Dave Blow stepped into the breach to lead the club in it's first season in Division One. At the end of the 2002/3 season John Flanagan resigned from the club due to other commitments outside of football. John left Woodley after they had finished a poor season only managing to finish in 17th place in the League. In the close season ex Mossley and Woodley player and old Reserve Team Manager Tony Hancock signed as the new Woodley 1st team manager with Paul Kirkam as his assistant and the club embarked on an incredible season that saw them win the Cheshire Senior Cup for the first time and gain 3rd place in the NWCL gaining promotion to the UniBond League.
