Mossley's under 21 team threw away a three goal lead to go down 5-4 in their first friendly of the new season against Cheadle Town under 23's at Wright Robinson College on Thursday evening.

The game was played at a high tempo with new manager Matt Moran's side containing several new arrivals to bolster an already decent squad.

Mossley took the lead in the 12th minute with a fine solo goal by last season's top scorer Jes Uchegbulam.

The game swung from end to end but it was Mossley who were creating the better chances and doubled the lead on 32 minutes with a well taken finish by new boy Papis Touray.

The lead was extended further six minutes later when Terry Cannon's powerful 20 yarder flew past the Cheadle keeper.

A couple of minutes before the break Cheadle finally got on the scoresheet with a close range finish.

Mossley opened the second period in disastrous fashion as a misplaced deensive pass allowed Cheadle to score a second goal within seconds of the restart.

The lead was stretched back to 4-2 when Jes Uchegbulam finished a neat move on 65 minutes but things soon started to go wrong defensively.

Mossley conceded a soft penalty and despite Hari Cawthorne saving the spot kick a Cheadle player reacted quickest to net the rebound.

Cheadle's 76th minute equaliser was something of a flook as a left wing corner caught on the breeze and dipped into the net at the far post with Mossley unable to affect it.

Mossley were then awarded a penalty themselves but Callum Barrow's placed spot kick was easily saved by the keeper.

Cheadle forced home the winner on 84 minutes as Mossley's defence again dealt poorly with a raid by the more experienced Cheadle side.
