Former Ashton United player Ged Coyne (born 1957) was appointed to replace Les Sutton in January 1992. Coyne, brother of well known former Manchester United and Crewe striker Peter Coyne had had a successful spell in charge at Manchester League side East Manchester before joining Les Sutton as assistant manager at Mossley in the summer of 1991 following Eric Webster's departure.

When Sutton departed from Mossley at the beginning of February 1992 Coyne was appointed manager in his place with Mossley finishing 16th in the table in the 1991/92 season..

Mossley had made an average start to the 1992/93 season when Coyne resigned on 28th October. He was installed as manager of Hyde United within a week of his departure from Mossley and later managed Glossop North End and Curzon Ashton.
