Mossley were beaten by League leaders Bridlington Town in the dying seconds of Saturday’s top of the table clash at Queensgate Stadium.

The home side made the early running but looked generally short of ideas and instead pumped a series of long balls into the box that bore no fruit and their shooting was generally wayward.

Mossley finally got to grips with a tricky surface and made breaks down the flanks with Rhodri Giggs and Adam Morning prominent in Mossley’s raids down the wings though the unfamiliar strike partnership of Leon Mike and Jordan Goodeve were finding cohesion difficult.

After few chances for either side Mossley took the lead on 28 minutes when Mike’s inch perfect flick put Jordan Goodeve clear. The Mossley striker kept his cool to finish well from the edge of the box with the home keeper in no-mans land.

Goodeve again burst through minutes later but this time chose a shot that was blocked rather than square to Morning who was facing the open goal.

Mossley survived a scare almost on half time when a rash challenge by Steve Sheil conceded a penalty but Lee Bracey dived to his left to first save and then smother Martin Thacker’s penalty kick.

The second period saw Mossley looking comfortable at 1-0 but not really causing any consternation for Bridlington and it was the visitors who had their slender lead removed in the 58th minute when a deep cross from the right saw Paul Wilson plant a header firmly past the despairing Lee Bracey.

Mossley stepped up a gear and Mike and Morning both fired narrowly wide, Goodeve had another one on one with the keeper only to shoot against his outstretched foot with the ball deflecting to safety, Rhodri Giggs saw his effort come back off the bar as Mossley created all the chances. Bridlington were still playing angled punts and looked to have settled for a point some time before the end but then came the sucker punch.

The game had entered it’s final minute and another long hopeful
Punt from the right wing at the feet of Paul Wilson who controlled and fired home from eight yards with the Mossley defence somehow stranded.
