Mossley's promotion hopes were dented in Saturday's lunch time kick off at Colwyn Bay as three second half goals condemned the Lilywhites to their first defeat of the season.

Mossley never really got out of the blocks as Colwyn Bay dictated the pace throughout the game. The first half basically saw Mossley forced to defend deep as the experienced Alex Kevan and lively Carl Rodgers dominated the midfield and had Mossley constantly retreating and having to face a number of corners.
Having said that, the home side didn't create any clear openings in the half and were generally restricted to long range shooting.

Mossley's respite came through the occasional break away and Denney and Downey both went close before Karl Vernon had a goal-bound header cleared off the line.

Mossley needed to perform better after the break but found themselves a goal behind within a minute of the restart as Melford Knight carelessly bundled Simon Burton over in the box and Alex Kevan sent Bracey the wrong way from the spot.

Mossley's agony was doubled twelve minutes later when Mossley failed to clear a corner and Ged Smith's mis-hit shot bobbled past Bracey into the far corner.

Mossley changed formation in a desperate attempt to get back in the game, but with Morning marked out of the game on the left and Downey and Denney unable to make inroads against a tight and well organised home defence Mossley never really looked capable of recovery. The closest they came was when Jordan Goodeve hammered a free kick inches over the bar.

The game was wrapped up for the Welsh side in the 69th minute when Simon Burton stole through a gap on the left and easily slotted the ball past Bracey and into the bottom corner.

The form shown in the opening game against Ossett seemed a long time ago as Mossley floundered in the sunshine on the North Wales coast. Undoubtedly on this day the best team won and sadly the best team wasn't Mossley.
