Mossley took full advantage of Kendal's postponement at Stocksbridge and Fleetwood's slip up at Brigg to move seven points clear at the top of the UniBond League Division One with a comfortable win at Ossett Albion.

Mossley never really needed to extend themselves against very mediocre opposition in West Yorkshire and could even afford the dubious luxury of a missed penalty.

Mossley dominated the game from the off and Rhodri Giggs had a great chance to give the Lilywhites the lead only to see Clark save at his feet as he broke through Ossett's less than totally effective off-side trap.

Giggs was again blocked off when he looked a certain scorer and Paul Garvey, Chris Downey and Melford Knight all went close. At the other end Lee Bracey was hardly troubled as Ossett failed to pose an attacking threat against a back four who were solid throughout.

Mossley looked to take the lead in the 36th minute when Clark inexplicably threw the ball straight to Chris Downey who was hauled down by the keeper for a certain penalty. Clark was lucky to receive only a yellow card and then redeemed himself by diving to his left to save Downey's spot kick.

The threatened goal came just four minutes later as Giggs advanced down the right wing and his pinpoint cross was powerfully headed home by the inrushing Paul Garvey from eight yards.

Mossley opened the second half very well and doubled the lead just three minutes in. Morning and Giggs worked a short corner on the right and the latter's cross was headed home at the far post by a stooping Paul Challinor.

Mossley more or less coasted through the rest of the game but there were chances for Garvey, Knight and Morning that went close while Bracey was called into action just once to save an awkward 40 yard swerver.
