Mossley got off to a superb start to the season with an emphatic win over a shell shocked Ossett Albion at Seel Park.

Mossley were strong in defence and fluid in attack as they took the Yorkshiremen apart with great style. Midfield dynamo Jordan Goodeve led the way with four brilliantly taken goals but there were excellent performances all over the park with Rhodri Giggs in particular playing a brilliant supporting role on the right. New boys Vernon, Thompson and Denney along with substitutes Cooke and Shaw all fitted in perfectly as the Mossley machine purred into action.

Ossett with last season's Huddersfield Town captain Rob Edwards orchestrating in midfield started brightly but found themselves playing across the park with no way through barring a couple of misguided long range efforts.

Mossley playing superb counter attacking football created an excellent 9th minute opener. Adam Morning switched play from left to right to find Giggs, who in turn raced past his marker and whipped in a perfect near post cross for Phil Denney to power home a League debut header.

Giggs hit the woodwork before the lead was doubled in the 24th minute. Morning's left wing corner was only partially cleared and Jordan Goodeve cut outside a defender and unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box that had the net bulging. 12 minutes later Goodeve netted again this time with a brilliant 30 yard screamer that saw Ossett keeper Clark rooted to the spot and he completed a 13 minute hat-trick moments later when Denney was fouled on the edge of the box and Goodeve's powerful free kick was deflected home leaving the hapless Clark wrong footed.

Christian Cooke replaced the injured Steve Sheil at the interval and Ossett attempted to restore some pride with some neat possession football that usually ended with a Mossley interception and another lightning quick raid on the visitors goal.

The next goal arrived on 64 minutes. Jordan Goodeve harassed Edwards into an unlikely error and then coolly dribbled around the keeper to finish from a tight angle, bagging his fourth and Mossley's fifth of the afternoon.

Substitute Joe Shaw on for Morning was then upended in the box after a mazy run in the 83rd minute and Chris Downey blasted home the spot kick sending Clark the wrong way.

The unfortunate Clark had his personal hell compounded three minutes later as he fumbled Goodeve's right wing corner and the ball fell for Chris Downey to turn home from close range and complete a fantastic opening day for rampant Mossley.
