Mossley were pushed all the way by much fancied Burscough but the Lilywhites kept their heads to record their first home victory of the season.

The visitors with a strong and experienced side put plenty of pressure on the Lilywhites but a well organised and highly resolute Mossley defence kept the Linnets pretty much in check throughout.

Burscough enjoyed all the early pressure and a couple of early efforts flew across the face of the Mossley goal. However it was Mossley who forged the first real opening when Anthony Bingham saw his effort come back off the bar and keeper McMillan did well to prevent Chris Evans netting the rebound.

The visitors pressure finally paid off though when Chris Price netted well on 19 minutes.

The Lilywhites responded and on the half hour Anthony Bingham dribbled through two strong challenges and somehow squeezed his shot through the legs of keeper McMillan for the equaliser.

Then followed a terrible incident when Burscough left back Bowen collided with the perimeter wall headfirst and the game was delayed for twenty minutes while an ambulance was called. Fortunately Bowen was not quite as badly injured as first feared and the game was eventually able to continue.

Mossley again had to defend early in the second half and Danny Trueman was forced into a couple of fine saves before Mossley took the lead on 71 minutes. James Tyrell-Nestor had replaced Evans moments earlier and a forceful run saw Mossley awarded a free kick on the right. Joe Shaw whipped in the free kick and Melford Knight rose highest to power home a header from 12 yards.

Burscough came straight back on attack and equalised themselves nine minutes from time when Chris Price hammered a fierce shot off the under side of the bar.

Danny White . . . scored winning header

Mossley were not to be denied however and when Kenny Mayers was fouled on the left with seven minutes left on the clock, Joe Shaw fired in a great free kick that central defender Danny White flicked his header into the far corner with McMillan rooted to his line.

The Lilywhites played out the remaining minutes well and denied Burscough any further chances.
