Mossley's plummet towards the bottom of the UniBond Premier continued unabated as they were totally overwhelmed by a fluid and shot happy Burscough side at Victoria Park.

Mossley were never in the game at any stage as the Linnets bossed the match from the start and Mossley keeper Danny Trueman had already been called into action twice in the opening minute.

Wave after wave of Burscough attacks put endless pressure on the Mossley defence as the Mossley midfield capitulated and the forwards never threatened. In fact Mossley managed only one shot in the entire ninety minutes and that came from left back Joel Pilkington, who when put clear on the left by David Eyres threaded pass, sliced the ball past the far post with his less favoured left foot when he clearly had time and room to switch feet and pick his spot. Mossley were already a goal down by this stage as Burscough had taken a 12th minute lead when Trueman punched away a corner and Bowen pinged the ball back into the Mossley box for Tomlinson to loop a back header over the now stranded Mossley keeper.

Trueman to his credit kept the score to 1-0 at the break with a string of fine saves and he was also helped out by goal-line clearances from Cooke and Pilkington and also the woodwork as Burscough threatened to run riot.

Mossley replaced Steve Burke with Lee Shillito at the interval but it failed to stem the tide as Burscough attacked at will as Mossley backed off from challenges and were generally slower to the ball all over the pitch.

Burscough doubled their lead and effectively ended what wasn't really a contest in the 49th minute when Matty McGinn scored the first of a second half hat-trick as he finished well from 15 yards.

McGinn got his second with a close range tap in on 63 minutes from Carden's deep right wing cross and completed his hat-trick eight minutes from time with a thunderous daisy cutter from the edge of the box. Burscough had also squandered numerous chances as they were able to open the Mossley defence at will and get their shots away.

Trueman was clearly Mossley's best player as he was the only one who ever saw much of the ball in what was an embarrassingly one sided contest. Mossley will have to improve and quickly if they are to get out of the mire in which they currently find themselves.
