Mossley turned the form book upside down to inflict Frickley's heaviest defeat of the season at South Elmsall this afternoon and give renewed hope of survival in the UniBond Premier Division.

With David Eyres rested and Melford Knight serving a one match ban for five cautions it was a gritty hard working performance by the Lilywhites who were full value for the victory.

Mossley took the lead with their very first attack with less than three minutes on the clock. The impressive Christian Cooke sent Lee Shillito scampering down the right, his deep cross was headed goalwards by Chris Ward and James Turley was on hand to finish off what looked a goal anyway from almost on the line.

Mossley played with new found confidence and doubled the lead on 23 minutes when James Turley's run and speculative shot from 20 yards took a wicked deflection and looped beyond the reach of home keeper Hood.

Mossley's debut making keeper Steve Wilson was largely under-employed as the Lilywhites defence, despite the early loss of the injured Steve Sheil, looked more solid than for many weeks with captain Jonathon Smith in outstanding form and Gary Furnival (Sheil's 22nd minute replecement) back to something like his best.

Frickley had posed very little threat and Mossley struck again a minute before the break. Shillito again got past his marker on the right and he crossed low trying to find the unmarked ward at the far post but the ball was turned past his own keeper by the unfortunate Carl Giblin and Mossley went in at the break with an excellent three goal lead.

James Turley . . . scored first half double

The second half saw Frickley press hard but their shooting was generally wayward despite some bright approach play and it was Mossley who put the game totally out of Frickley's reach in the 61st minute with a well worked goal. Ryder and Turley combined well on the left to release Chris Ward who bore down on goal and looked to shoot before squaring the ball for substitute Peter Wright to tap into an empty net from two yards.

Frickley continues to look for openings but they were few and far between as Mossley sat happily soaking up everything Frickley could throw at them. Steve Wilson was finally called into action a couple of minutes from time when he leapt to his right to keep out Kennedy's 25 yard screamer and keep a deserved clean sheet on a confident debut for the ex Hull, Macclesfield and Tranmere custodian.

The Mossley players applause of the travelling fans at the end was also much appreciated!
