MOSSLEY'S UniBond League premier division survival hopes were dealt a major blow following Saturday's 4-0 home defeat by Gatehead.

The ‘Lambs' slaughtered the Lilywhites, whose 12th home defeat of the campaign leaves them eight points adrift of safety.

Captain Steve Salvin took only four minutes to start the rout, sliding in to convert a David Southern cross.

And Southern added a second before Mossley felt aggrieved when Clive Moyo-Modise had a goal controversially ruled out for offside.

Gateshead put the game out of Mossley's reach in the 71st minute as Mattie Moffat scored his first goal for the club after Wilson could only parry Craig Nelthorpe's shot.

Moffat then turned provider for the fourth as he burst clear and unselfishly squared the ball to Southern who couldn't miss.
