Hopes of a run in this years FA Cup were skuppered by an unforced error late in this intriguing 1st Qualifying Round tie at big spending Guiseley.

Play went quickly from end to end in the early stages with both sides probing for openings but it was the home side who took a 34th minute lead when Smithard lost his marker on the right and crossed low for Stuart Gray to slot home at the far post.

Minutes later Guiseley keeper Dickinson made a remarkable save to deny Steve Burke when the young Mossley forward looked a certain scorer.

Mossley piled on the pressure in the second half in search of a deserved equaliser. Kenny Mayers screwed his shot wide after opening up the Guiseley defence, Joe Shaw's great run ended with a shot across the face of goal and substitute Marvin McDonald's great run and cross from the right eluded everyone when the merest of touches would have found the net.

Mossley finally got the equaliser their dominance deserved eight minutes from time. The move started with neat passing in midfield. Christian Cooke broke down the left and and his cross was turned home by the deserving Steve Burke.

A replay looked the likely outcome until a rare Guiseley break down the left resulted in Danny Trueman putting his name on a low cross that he didn't get to and Craig Hall had the simplest of tap ins to give the home side a victory they barely deserved.

Steve Burke . . . deserved his goal
