The Lilywhites suffered a second defeat in a week to promotion chasers Guiseley after gifting the powerful and direct visitors all three goals.

It was an inglorious afternoon for Mossley who gave a debut to new signing Peter Wright from Chorley who worked hard for no reward in his first appearance. He did come close to making a scoring impact when he saw a powerful shot rattle the angle of post and bar in the second half but by then Mossley were already a beaten side.

Mossley had opened in spirited fashion and played some neat football without creating any chances but then conceded a needless foul 20 yards from goal. The clearly ring rusty Rob Edwards brought down Chris Clarke and Sam Denton drove a thunderbolt free kick past the Mossley wall and into the bottom corner with Trueman rooted on his line.

Guiseley played endless long balls at giant centre forward Clarke and then supported from midfield in numbers, their back four never taking a second touch of the ball and it was a style of power play that left Mossley for the most part bewildered as for how to play against it.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute when Simon Sturdy scored with a free header from a corner as Trumen's "keepers" call, saw him go for the ball behind the big Guiseley number 4 who scored with ease.

Peter Wright . . . debut

Mossley pushed forward after the interval in the vain hope of reducing the deficit but were unable to do so and the game was wrapped up, if it wasn't already, in the 75th minute. The otherwise impressive home debutant Gary Furnival made a complete hash of a clearance, Trueman saved Clarke's shot but Matty Smithard was on hand to knock home the rebound from ten yards.

Mossley continued to work hard up to the end and were rewarded with a consolation five minutes into stoppage time when Joe Shaw scored directly from a left wing corner but it was little consolation for some despondent looking Mossley fans at the final whistle.
