Mossley upped their performance in search of their first points of the season following Saturday’s disappointing home reverse to Ilkeston and all was going well for the UniBond 1st Division Champions until Marine substitute Lee Mulvaney unleashed an unstoppable shot 11 minutes from time.

Mossley took the game to their opponents from the off and enjoyed the majority of the early possession.

Kenny Mayers had the best chance of the half but his close range effort was blocked by Marine keeper Andy Ralph.

At the other end Danny Trueman who enjoyed an impressive debut was called into action to save from the ever dangerous Peter Cumiskey and Nicky Young.

The second half saw Mossley regain the foothold they had enjoyed in the early stages. Mayers had a superb header cleared off the line and Paul Garvey headed narrowly wide from a corner.

Just as it looked that Mossley might take something from the game they were hit with a sucker punch as a momentary slip of concentration by the otherwise outstanding Mossley defence was punished as substitute Lee Mulvaney unleashed a screaming shot from 20 yards that gave Trueman no chance.

Danny Trueman . . . impressive debut

Mossley wouldn’t lie down though and a couple of late corners saw Mossley nearly earn a share of the spoils as Danny White saw his header cleared off the line by a despairing defender and Marine hung on to leave Mossley point-less after two games.
