Mossley brought Whitby Town's recent good run to an end by quickly going some way to eradicating memories of Saturday's unfortunate defeat with their best home display of the season.

With only one change from Saturday's line up - Steve Sheil replacing Rob Edwards at left back, Mossley were quickly out of the blocks in a frantic rearly spell. Peter Wright and Anthony Bingham were causing major problems for the Whitby back line who were grateful for a couple of narrow off-side decisions. Wright shot straight at visitors keeper Campbell while Robinson shot wide at the other end.

Wright and Melford Knight both went close for Mossley before Mossley lost the unfortunate Anthony Bingham with a thigh injury with Steve Burke replacing him on 42 minutes. Andy Thackeray volleyed narrowly wide as Mossley pressed and a great run by Joe Shaw on the right saw Campbell save his attempted angled lob shot as Mossley finished the half in the ascendancy.

Whitby began the second half brightly and Brunskill saw his effort turned away for a corner and Robinson also fired wide when well placed.

Mossley took the lead on 52 minutes. Joe Shaw's superb tackle robbed Robinson Terry Bowker slipped the ball through to Steve Burke who raced clear to slot the ball past the advancing Campbell from the edge of the box.

Whitby created very little in the way of chances after this despite playing some neat football and the visitors were in real trouble when Burke again raced clear only to be pulled back by last defender Danny Farthing and Saturday's match winner at Whitby was given his marching orders. Campbell saved Wright's ensuing free kick.

With just three minutes remaining Christian Cooke, who had tormented his marker Brumwell all night, was hauled to floor and as the ball was cleared the linesman brought the refree's arttention to an off the ball incident and Wilkinson was yellow carded and Mossley awarded a free kick outside the right corner of the box. This time Peter Wright made no mistake from the free kick firing powerfully inside Campbell's left hand post to deservedly complete the scoring in Mossley's favour.
