Mossley were finally condemned to the drop to one of the two UniBond feeder divisions despite a spirited performance at Witton on Saturday.

In the Unibond Premier Division there seems to be three seperate leagues.

There are around eight serious Conference contenders and another seven in the comfort zone.

The remainder haven't got to grips with this division and this has been on the cards for some time.

Witton were a little disappointing and the only highlights of a mundane first half were efforts by Mossley’s Clive Moyo-Medise after he got clear of defenders. He should certainly have done better with the first effort, which he miskicked allowing Kennedy to smother.

Two minutes into the second half Witton went in front as Mike Moseley tried a speculative overhead kick, that appeared to be going harmlessly wide, but Mark Peers chased the lost cause towards the touchline and recentered it for Moseley to head home.

Witton’s lead lasted only eight minutes, as Burke came in from the left and, surrounded by three defenders, he turned and struck a low shot from 20 yards to score.

However, Mossley could not hang on and, after 64 minutes, Adam Warlow restored Witton’s advantage, reacting first when Wilson failed to hold a cross.

James Turley came on as substitute and, while he wasn't having the best of times, he almost produced the equaliser with a dipping effort from the edge of the box which hit the underside of the bar and bounced out.

Mossley’s defeat confirmed their relegation placing, while Burscough dropping points made automatic promotion more likely for Witton.
