The Lilywhites enjoyed their first maximum points haul under Gerry Quinn with this emphatic and thoroughly deserved Bank Holiday win at the Giant Axe.
Mossley stamped their authority on the game early on and never let go, harrasing Lancaster into errors and moving the ball well from wing to wing.
Early half chances fell to Kitson Gayle and David Wallace. Former Kendal and Fleetwood keeper Mark Thornley was kept constantly busy as Mossley found space on both wings that the industrious Paul Garvey and Wallace were able to exploit. 'Man of the Match' Gareth Hamlet led the line superbly while Kitson Gayle looked like scoring every time he received the ball.
Mossley took the lead in the 27th minute. A through ball from Martin Allison sent Kitson Gayle scampering away from his marker and he coolly slotted the ball past the advancing Thornley from the edge of the box.
The home side for their part managed just one shot in the entire half and that sailed hopelessly wide with the underworked Ashley Connor little more than a spectator.
However, one goal isn't always enough to win a football match and after failing to add to the lead by the interval Mossley were rocked early in the second half. Lee Connor was harshly adjudged to have fouled Entwistle and Lancaster were awarded a spot kick. Ashley Connor saved Mossley's blushes with a fine save, turning Halliwell's penalty kick away to his left while the rebound was blasted high over the bar.
The incident shook Mossley out of their comfort zone and they were soon pressing again. Hamlet and Gayle's power and movement was causing Lancaster all kinds of consternation and it was litttle surprise when Mossley finally doubled their advantage and killed off the game in the 68th minute. David Wallace, who had built up a good understanding with the impressive Matthew Butters on the left, whipped in a fierce cross that Gareth Hamlet stooped to power home with his head giving Thornley no chance whatsoever.
It has taken Gerry Quinn's newly built side four games to register it's first maximum points, but more displays like this will surely yield more positive results and Mossley fans can look forward to an exciting season.
