Debutant Gareth Hamlet made a good start to his Mossley career by scoring the opening goals in today's 3-2 win over Northern Counties East Leaguers Thackley.

The team had a more balanced look than on Tuesday and contained nine of the already signed players along with the return of last season's 'Player of the Year' Joel Pilkington.

After dominating the opening stages Mossley opened the scoring on 34 minutes. Thackley had failed to clear a right wing corner and the ball broke to the far post where young trialist left winger Leevan Brown played the ball back accross the face of goal, giving the perfectly positioned Gareth Hamlet his first goal with a close range tap in.

Thackley played some neat football and had created a few openings that had seen Ashley Connor called into action before equalising in the 42nd minute. Hussain lost his marker to head the ball beyond Connor's reach from a right wing cross.

Thackley were only level for a matter of seconds though as Gareth Hamlet raided from the restart and made himself an opening before firing Mossley back in front.

Mossley went 3-1 up six minutes into the second half. Substitute Paul Quinn fired in a quality cross from the right that found the impressively industrious Paul Garvey unmarked to head home from close range.

Thackley pulled a goal back in the dying minutes when Ettene pounced on Mike Jefferson's error to fire a late consolation.
