Mossleyweb Man of the Match: James Mann

Mossley were held to a goalless draw by managerless Lancaster City at the Giant Axe on Saturday in a game marred by a 30 minute delay due to an injury incurred by Lancaster’s Andy Teague.

The incident took the impetus away from a Mossley side that had dominated up to that point and had looked far the more likely to end the deadlock.

Veteran keeper Thornley did well to keep out goalbound efforts by Chris Hirst and Danny Toronzak while Blackshaw, Moyo-Modice, Mortimer and Kelly all failed to overly trouble the keeper from good positions.
Lancaster for their part were happy to lump the ball forward in the hope that someone would get on the end of it, mostly the ploy failed.

The second half though saw Mossley fail to test Thornley despite some half decent openings. Chances often being lost by some over elaborate approach play and a poor quality final ball.

At the other end James Mann excelled with a super save from Jackson’s diving header while Nick Boothby headed off the line from Dodgson’s speculative lob.

In the end the tow sides contrasting styles aided neither side and a goalless draw that failed as a spectacle resulted.
