Mossleyweb Man of the Match: Lee Blackshaw

Mossley completed a fine double over Bamber Bridge after coming from behind to deservedly beat the strong and experienced south Ribble side thanks to a goal of the season contender by Lee Blackshaw.

Ex Mossley striker Peter Wright was a threat throughout the first half and he had the first shot of the night but his powerful effort flew just wide. Mossley responded and Lee Blackshaw fired over before Nick Allen brought a good save out of home keeper Hinchcliffe. Steve Settle then had an effort saved by Hinchcliffe as Mossley created the better chances.

The home side went in front on 27 minutes. Wright broke clear on the right from a suspiciously off-side position and played the ball inside to right wing back James Hoywood who gave Peter Collinge no chance from ten yards.

Brig's lead lasted only three minutes as Steve Settle used his pace to great effect on the right leaving his marker floundering, not for the first or last time, and fired in a great cross that Steve Moore met with a bullet header from six yards.

The half ended with Mossley on top as Hinchcliffe got down well to save Chris McDonagh's powerful header.

Bamber Bridge won a free kick on the left just after the restart and Wright fired a powerful dead ball against the Mossley post. It didn't however, take Mossley too long to take the lead with a real quality goal. McDonagh won a flick on header that found Steve Moore, The Mossley number 9's deft flick set Lee Blackshaw clear on the left and after cutting inside the last defender curled a superb low shot beyond Hinchcliffe and into the far corner of the net.

Bamber Bridge tried to force their way back into the game but Mossley's superbly marshalled defence comfortably kept them at bay, Mahoney coming the closest when Collinge was forced to tip over his dipping drive from distance.

At the other end Mossley looked likely to increase their lead and continued to create chances. Moore headed wide. Settle had an effort blocked before at the other end substitute Phil Denney (another ex Mossley man) flicked the ball past the advancing Collinge but his goalbound effort was weak and Graham Kay was able to clear easily.

The last notable action of the night came in the dying seconds when fit again substitute Mike Fish showed all his striker's prowess to fashion a chance for himself that Hinchcliffe did very well to save one handed as the ball headed for the top corner.
