Mossley took all three points from this end to end
encounter at College Grove but it took a little bit of magic
from Lee Blackshaw to earn the victory in the last minute
of the scheduled ninety.
Mossley manager John Flanagan made a couple of changes from
the side that won at bamber Bridge on Tuesday with Nick Boothby
replacing the injured Nick Boothby in a three man defence
while top scorer Matty Kay returned to the side at the expense
of Nick Allen while Ben Richardson was moved to central midfield.
Both teams were attack minded from the start as the game
flowed quickly from end to end though neither keeper was really
tested. Mossley had a double penalty appeal waved away when
the lively Chris McDonagh was clattered twice as he entered
the Wakefield box and moments later the home side took the
lead when giant striker Tom Denton, on loan from Huddersfield
Town, slotted home after good work by Wilson on the right.
Mossley drew level on 27 minutes when Ben Richardson cut
inside the area to fire into the far corner through a ruck
of players. An excellent way to celebrate his 21st birthday.
Lively Wakefield left winger Ryan Pleasants was being afforded
too much room and he struck a post when put clear before giving
the home side the lead for the second time five minutes before
the break.
Mossley were more dominat after the break as they chased
a second equaliser but were fortunate to see Denton strike
a post and also fire a header inches over.
As the game entered it's final ten minutes Mossley forged
the equaliser that their overall effort deserved when Chris
McDonagh drove home a powerful low shot from the edge of the
area for his fourth goal in the last five games after some
good work by Matty kay and from then on if there was to be
a winner then there was only one team going to win it.
Bears keeper Jan Zolna was spoken to by the referee for time
wasting as the under pressure home side looked happy to hang
on for a draw but they had counted without the silky skills
of Mossley winger Lee Blackshaw.
Mossley had retained possession well from a series of corners
when Blackshaw received the ball on the edge of a crowded
penalty box. Side-stepping brilliantly past three attempted
tackles the Mossley number 11 calmly stroked the ball past
Zolna from eight yards for an outstanding winning goal to
the delight of the travelling Mossley fans who outnumbered
the home support in what was a poor attendance.
Mossley were pressing for a fourth goal when the final whistle
went three minutes later to give the Lilywhites maximum points
away from home for the second time in five days.
