Mossley were held by neighbours Curzon Ashton in this hastily re-arranged Christmas holiday fixture despite creating all the clearer chances but being pegged back by a softly conceded second half penalty.

Mossley made all the early running with front men Mike Fish and Kristian Dennis causing the visitors plenty of problems with some excellent movement. Chances were few though and Curzon stepped up their game to enjoy some good possession but despite several crosses into the box they failed to trouble Peter Collinge's goal.

Mossley took the lead in the 23rd minute. Chris Rowney broke down the centre of midfield and the referee made the right decision when his run was halted by a badly timed tackle and the ball broke for Kristian Dennis who scored his fourth goal in the last three games with a powerfully driven left foot strike from the edge of the box that gave Curzon keeper Ellison no chance.

Ben Richardson had a great chance to double the lead a minute later but scuffed his shot when well placed, Fish and Matty Kay also went close as Mossley took control of the remainder of the half.

Curzon's only clear openings saw Broadbent fire wide when it looked easier to hit the target whle Collinge saved well at the feet of Edghill.

The opening moments of the second half saw Mossley miss a great chance when Richardson's run opened the visitors defence but both he and Matty Kay failed to make the best use of the goalmouth scramble that followed.

That Mossley hadn't converted their greater number of chances was to come back to bite them in the 63rd minute. Mike Oates mis-timed a tackle in the Mossley box and James Ogoo went crashing to the floor for an obvious penalty. Daniel Broadbent crashed home the spot kick to equalise.

The game swung from end to end as ring rusty weary legs began to take their toll on a heavy pitch and chances were at a premium. Dennis being unlucky to be marginally off-side as he broke clear while at the other end the Mossley defence comfortably held firm with Graham Kay, Aaron Chalmers and Mike Thomas all outstanding in defence.
