Despite going into this FA Trophy replay with a much changed side due to an ever growing injury list, Mossley made short work of seeing off Kidsgrove Athletic at the Seddon Stadium.

The Lilywhites went into this game without Chris Rowney, Aaron Chalmers, Danny Egan and Luca Havern who all featured on Saturday, though Andy Watson returned to the defence following his unavailability in the first game and Chris Middleton was also recalled. Sam Hare partnered Connor Hampson in a particularly young central midfield pairing, while Mark Connor replaced Egan in the forward line.

Mossley started well and Mark Connor saw his shot tipped over by Kidsgrove keeper Intihar in the first couple of minutes.

Mossley dominated possession throughout the first half and took a deserved lead on 23 minutes. Mossley won a right wing corner, Steve Settle hit the ball to the near post from the flag kick for Chris Middleton to flick on, giving Mark Connor a simple tap in from close range.

Two minutes later Mossley doubled the lead with a superb goal by Mike Oates. Oates picked up the ball well inside his own half on the right as Mossley cleared a Kidsgrove corner. Reaching half way he cut inside with Connor's dummy run clearing a path. Oates then fired a great shot from 25 yards that gave Intihar no chance.

The third goal came in the 36th minute. Mossley won a free kick 20 yards out and Ben Richardson drilled the ball past the defensive wall and into the bottom corner with the help of a slight deflection.

With the game all but won Mossley eased off after the break allowing the home side more possession, but some wayward shooting failed to trouble Peter Collinge and it was Mossley who scored again in the 73rd minute. Substitute Matty Kay, making his return from injury, made a run down the left wing run and crossed. A home defender scuffed his clearance into the path of Mark Connor for a tap in finish.

Kidsgrove refused to give up though and reduced the arrears two minutes later. A corner from the right was cleared off line by Middleton but headed back in into the net by Danny Smith.

The home side had a late flourish that failed to reward them further and in the end it was a comfortable win for Mossley, who now pick up the £2,000 in Carlsberg sponsorship prize money and will travel to Shepshed Dynamo in the next round on Saturday 16th October.
