Mossley finally ended their disappointing losing streak in this hard fought 2-2 draw at Salford City in a game that ended in dramatic fashion with three goals scored in the closing minutes of a sometimes frantic contest.

With both sides desperate to recover from recent dips in form workrate was high but quality was often only moderate as neither side created many scoring chances in a goalless first half.

Mossley had probably the best chance when Chris Hall broke clear on the left. As he chipped the ball over the advancing keeper Robertson, he was taken out by the ex Mossley keeper just outside the box. Robertson being extremely fortunate to receive only a yellow card.

Daryl Weston fired a dipping 30 yarder inches over the bar and ex Mossley man Matty Cross made a superb last ditch tackle to deny the again impressive Mike Oates.

Mossley lost Daryl Weston through injury early in the second half and he was replaced by new signing Lee Rick who quickly settled into the Mossley midfield in promising fashion.

Salford opened the scoring somewhat against the run of play in the 57th minute. Former Rochdale striker Jack Redshaw won possession just inside the Mossley half and raced through to slot the ball past Peter Collinge and inside the left hand post.

Mike Fish replaced Chris Hall shortly after and Fish saw his free kick go just wide of the post shortly after. Fish and Oates both had chances to score as Mossley pressed hard for an equaliser and when Oates saw a goal controversially ruled out when Robertson kicked the ball against him it looked like Mossley’s chance had gone.

However, with two minutes remaining Mossley attacked down the right, Substitute Cavell Coo’s cross was cleared to the right wing, Ryan Barrow crossed the ball back in and Mike Fish stooped to head a hugely deserved equaliser.

The referee indicated a minimum of five minutes added time and four minutes into it Fish clipped the ball into the path of Mike Oates who calmly side footed the ball past Robertson and into the bottom corner.

The drama wasn’t finished as Salford piled forward and won a corner. Salford skipper Martyn Andrews was injured in the melee that followed and the game was held up for five minutes before Andrews was stretchered from the field.

Salford then won a corner in the very dying seconds and had all eleven players in the Mossley box as Adam Morning’s corner kick was headed home by debutant full back Josh Tinker to recover a point for Salford that moments earlier had seemed a forlorn hope.
