Mossley strolled confidently through to the next round of the FA Cup at Surrey Street this afternoon in what was a thoroughly one sided contest with the rampant Lilywhites in complete control from first whistle to last.

Ben Richardson returned to the side at right back with Daryl Weston reverting to midfield, Aaron Chalmers slipped back into central defence in place of the absent Luca Havern. Lee Blackshaw returned to the side on the left of midfield and Mike Fish lined up alongside Mike Oates in an attack minded 4-4-2 formation.

Mossley opened strongly and Blackshaw was unlucky to see an overhead scissor kick whistle over the bar in the opening moments. Mossley earned a series of corners as Glossop found themselves under heavy pressure and the Lilywhites deservedly took the lead in the 10th minute when Chris Rowney's left wing corner was turned into his own net by under pressure home skipper Danny Yates.

The game settled into Mossley's desired tempo with Daryl Weston and centre backs Chalmers and Andy Watson breaking down any attempted Glossop breaks from midfield while Rowney orchestrated things going forward.

It was the livewire Rowney who netted Mossley's second in the 18th minute when he curled s superb 20 yarder beyond Stuart Williams' despairing dive.

Glossop offered just about nothing as an attacking force meaning the game was continually compressed into the Glossop half with Mossley playing neat and controlled football around them with wing backs Richardson and Danny Warner prominent. Fish, Oates and Blackshaw all had chances to increase Mossley's lead before the break but some off target finishing and some desperate home defending kept Mossley at bay.

Despite Glossop making a double half time substitution the second half followed exactly the same pattern as the first. Fish and Oates constantly harassing the home defence's attempts to clear their lines and when in possession Mossley's passing was excellent all over the immaculate Surrey Street playing surface despite the heavy showers that dominated the afternoon's Derbyshire weather.

Chris Rowney was substituted shortly after getting a needless yellow card for a late challenge and Matty Kay, who had also been booked, limped off with a 'dead leg' to be replaced by Osebi Abadaki and ex Stockport County debutant Sam Hare. Both played their part as Mossley continued to press with the lively Abadaki twice going close to increasing the Lilywhites lead.

Mossley extended their lead in the 67th minute when good work by Fish and Blackshaw saw Mike Oates find time and space to pick his spot from six yards. Substitute Danny Egan, on for Blackshaw, then saw his goal bound shot on the turn deflected for a corner as Mossley kept the pressure on.

Glossop made an attempt on goal when Kharas headed well wide from a right wing cross but it was as much as the home side could muster in the entire 90 minutes and the inevitable fourth goal duly arrived a couple of minutes from time.

Richardson broke strongly down the right wing and crossed low for Mike Fish to score a fully deserved goal from close range in the 88th minute to complete the scoring.

It was an excellent performance for the boys in white and black, albeit against inferior opposition than they are likely to meet in the Evo-Stik League. However, you can only beat what is in front of you and Mossley did this with some aplomb, boosted the coffers by £3,000 thanks to the E.ON sponsorship and can now look forward with anticipation to the 2nd Qualifying Round draw on Monday lunchtime.
