Mossley have only themselves to blame for not winning this Carlsberg FA Trophy tie against Kidsgrove Athletic at Seel Park. Missed chances were to prove costly as the sides now face a replay at Kidsgrove on Tuesday night.

Without new additions to the injury list, Mike Fish and Lee Blackshaw, along with the unavailable Andy Watson, Shaun Higgins was forced to shuffle the side with Havern and Chalmers forming a new centre back pairing while a debut was given at right back to recent signing from Bury Ryan Barrow with the versatile Ben Richardson switching to the left of midfield. Barrow acquitted himself well and looks another good prospect while Connor Hampson gave an assured display in midfield alongside Mossleyweb man of the match Chris Rowney.

As usual Mossley opened brightly but chances were few in a slightly subdued opening half. Mossley's best chances both fell to Chris Rowney who chose precision over power with two shots that whistle narrowly wide. At the other end Peter Collinge wasn't overly troubled though the visitors twice had good headed opportunities but, like Mossley, failed to hit the target.

Mossley had one lucky escape in the opening half when Collinge body checked the dangerous Liam Shotton on the edge of the area. Kidsgrove claimed a penalty but the referee awarded a free kick on the edge of the box that came to nothing.

Mossley increased the pace after the break and deserved the lead when it arrived on 53 minutes. With the visitors penalty area crowded Mike Oates placed a shot through the only available gap from the edge of the box with keeper Intihar unsighted.

there seemed no way back for Kidsgrove as they seemed short of attacking ideas while Connor Hampson got on the end of a left wing cross only to roll the ball back across the face of the goal with the net gaping.

Several more chances and half chances passed Mossley by before Kidsgrove found an equaliser out of nothing with fifteen minutes remaining. Aidan Matranga side stepped a tackle before firing into the far corner with Collinge well beaten.

The last chance of the game fell to Mossley when Hampson powered a header goal ward that Intihar somehow blocked with a leg as he dived the wrong way and Mossley were forced to replay the game. With the current growing injury list it is a game that Mossley could well have done without.
