Mossley went out of the FA Trophy at the 2nd Qualifying Round stage on Saturday at the hands of Premier Division side Nantwich Town on Saturday and thus ended thye Lilywhites cup interests for the current season.

It was a lively end to end game where Mossley match their viistors from the higher division but the usual combination of missed chances and poor defending allowed Nantwich to take the prize.

Nantwich had the first chance when Nathan Southern fired over when well placed before Mike Oates fired wide when he will know he ought to have scored as Mossley oipened up the visitors defence for the first time.

The opening goal came on 27 minutes following good work on the right by Chalmers and Settle before Sam Hare turned the ball home from close range to give Mossley the lead.

Hare should have doubled Mossley's lead five minutes later when he was clear on the left but Nantwich keeper Chapman blocked with his legs.

Six minutes before the break Nantwich drew level with a fortuitous goal. Mossley failed to fully clear a corner and Michael Lennon's mis-hit shot from the edge of a crowded box took a wicked deflection to wrong foot Collinge and find the home net.

Nantwich started the second half well and went in front in the 52nd minute when Glyn Blackhurst was left with too much room and fired home after some neat build up play.

Mossley forged forward again though and were causing the visitors defence plenty of problems finally and deservedly finding an equaliser in the 62nd minute. Steve Settle's corner wasn't cleaered and Andy Watson stooped to power home a header from six yards.

With fifteen minutes remaining Nantwich regained the lead with a high quality goal. Former St Vincents & Grenadines international Rodney Jack started and finished a great move playing a one-two with the aid of Lennon's back heeled pass he curled the ball beyond the stranded Collinge from 18 yards.

Mossley worked hard to try and force another equaliser and had opportunities. Oates had two more efforts saved and a penalty claim waved away while Mike Fish ought to have done better with a last minute header that flew over the bar when finding himself completely unmarked at the back post, but once again Mossley paid the price for not finishing their chances.
