Mossley did themselves proud in their opening pre season friendly, holding a strong Oldham side to a 2-2 draw and in the end being unlucky not to win the game.

The game opened at a good tempo as both teams looked to get the ball down and play attractive football and it was Mossley who drew first blood on 18 minutes. Mike Fish saw his 20 yard effort fumbled over the line by Oldham keeper Fleming.

Mossley enjoyed plenty of possession but conceded an equaliser shortly before the interval when Djeny Bembo-Leta scored with an absolute screamer of a shot from 25 yards that gave Mossley keeper Collinge no chance.
Collinge then made a superb double save to deny Joe Colbeck and Bembo-Leta as the half came to an end.

Oldham opened brighter in the second period but their early dominance didn’t last long as Mossley regained control of the midfield and regained the lead deservedly in the 59th minute when debutant Michael Oates finished with an angled drive from 10 yards after some great build up play down the right.

Mossley missed a glorious chances when Nathan Kilcourse headed wide after another great build up and a couple more chances went begging.

Oldham recovered and responded though and equalised with a well struck shot by Colbeck in the 70th minute.
Mossley had the final chance of the game when teenager Matthew Chadwick’ had a header well saved by Fleming and the same player then saw his free kick flash across the face of the goal.
