Mossley finally put the failings of the last two months firmly behind them with this 5-1 demolition of Prescot Cables on a poor surface at Valerie Park on Saturday.

The Lilywhites dominated the game from the off and left Prescot chasing shadows every time they moved the ball forward. Several chances had already gone begging with a mixture of bad luck and poor finishing before Mossley finally took the lead their domination deserved in the 33rd minute.

Mossley won a corner on the left that wasn't fully cleared with Andy Watson chasing the ball out to the far touchline, Watson quickly played in Matty Kay who pulled the ball back from the left deadball line for skipper Graham Kay to ram home his first goal of the season from six yards.

Three minutes later Mossley doubled their lead. Mike Fish played a delicately chipped through ball that saw Matty Kay clip the ball over the advancing Cables keeper Mike Langley from outside the box.

A minute later and Prescot were given a lifeline when they were awarded a rather soft penalty for a foul on Pearson. Lee Madin sent Peter Collinge the wrong way from the spot.

Mossley weren't to be pegged back though and the two goal advantage was restored four minutes from the break. A mighty punt up field by Collinge was misjudged by the home defence and Mike Fish was able to run through to loop a perfect header over the stranded Langley from 20 yards out.

Prescot enjoyed more possession after the interval and had a couple of pot shots that flew wide or over the bar but Mossley always looked the most likely to score the next goal, and so it proved. Mossley played keep ball around the home box and when Lee Rick played the ball wide right to Chris Rowney, his cross-cum-shot left Langley grasping at thin air and Mossley were 4-1 up.

Four minutes from time Mossley wrapped up the scoring when Matyy Kay fed Kristian Dennis, who, after threatening a goal all afternoon, finally got his reward with a crisp shot into the bottom corner.
