When a team dominates a game as much as Mossley did this encounter with Prescot Cables one has to wonder what has happened to the team’s luck.

The Lilywhites slumped to a third successive home defeat against one of the poorest team’s they have encountered all season.

Prescot’s footballing contribution to this game totalled three goalscoring chances. Unfortunately for Mossley they took two of them and the result speaks volumes for Mossley current failings at both ends of the park.

The game opened well for Mossley with the Lilywhites moving the ball around at pace but making few inroads into the visitors defence.

Prescot had their first attack on 11 minutes and promptly took the lead. Mossley failed to deal with a right wing corner and Lee Madin pounced to net the rebound after Peter Collinge had made an initial save.

Mossley huffed and puffed through the half but couldn’t break through a packed Prescot defence. Mike Oates and Matty Kay had Mossley’s best chances but Prescot keeper Mike Langley was equal to everything Mossley could throw at him.

Mossley finally found the equaliser their pressure deserved in the 77th minute when Ryan Barrow’s powerful shot took a defection to beat Langley from 20 yards. It was Barrow’s first goal for the club.

Based on the almost constant Mossley possession in the second half one would then have expected them to then go on and win the game. However, the opposite happened. Prescot pushed players into the Mossley half for just about the first time in the second period six minutes from time and an attempted clearance unluckily for Mossley ricocheted into the path of Joe Gibiliru, the former Mossley player’s son and namesake, made no mistake from 10 yards to fire past the helpless Collinge.

It was a bitter pill and another shattering defeat as Mossley failed to make inroads to create another equaliser and Prescot reacted at the end like they had just won a cup rather than three points against an out of sorts home side.
