Mossley battered Radcliffe Borough into submission at Stainton Park on Saturday thanks to a four goal second half salvo that saw beleagered Boro thoroughly put to the sword.

The opening half gave little sign of what was to follow after the interval as both sides made a tentative start, Mossley enjoying the lions share of possession despite playing up the Stainton Park slope.

What few chances there were went Mossley's way, Kristian Dennis twice troubling home keeper Joe Brobbin while Andy Watson's powerful header from the edge of the box flew narrowly wide. In reply Radcliffe caused very few problems for the dominant Mossley defence with former Mossley player Mark Connor having the hosts only effort at goal but his shot flew high and wide.

In the second half with the slope in their favour Mossley stepped up a gear and were full value for the lead when it finally arrived ten minutes after the restart. Mike Fish was brought tumbling to the ground by Boro left back Sonko, who had a torrid afternoon, Fish safely despatching the spot kick himself - sending Brobbin the wrong way.

Mossley attacked with relish and the second goal arrived eleven minutes later. Kristian Dennis hit a fierce drive from the edge of the box that Brobbin couldn't hold and Matty Kay reacted quickest to bundle home the rebound from six yards.

Radcliffe tried in vain to regain a foothold in the game but Mossley skipper Graham Kay and his fellow defenders were in no mood to let them anywhere near Peter Collinge's goal. Chetcuti, having only Boro's second shot of the match, fired well wide from a good position.

The game was well and truly put to bed in the closing moments. Matty Kay blasted a shot from the edge of the box and again Brobbin failed to gather as substitute Danny Egan ended his long goal drought by knocking home the rebound much to the delight of his team-mates and the good number of travelling Lilywhites fans.

The fourth goal arrived as the game entered stoppage time. The ever dangerous Kristian Dennis raced past a couple of defenders before unleashing an unstoppable left foot drive that left Brobbin clutching at air as the ball moved and fizzed past him from twenty yards for his 8th goal in only six starts since his November arrival from Woodley.

It was a terrific second half showing by the Lilywhites and a great way to prepare for the potentially much tougher visit to Chorley on Tuesday night.
