Gareth McClelland enjoyed his first game as Mossley Manager with a 0-0 draw against in form Woodley Sports at Seel Park on Saturday.

The game itself was something of a midfield battle with few chances for either side. Most pleasing for Mossley was the clean sheet, their first since January. At the other end Mossley were denied maximum points by a dubious off-side call against Kristian dennis as he slotted home with fifteen minutes remaining.

Otherwise the game was somewhat uneventful with Woodley enjoying more of the overall possession but making very few inroads into a well drilled Mossley defence.

Woodley fielded eight former Mossley players in their starting line up with ex Mossley boss Chris Willcock in charge but the expected onslought from former Lilywhites fans favourites like Ben Richardson, Lee Blackshaw and Nathan Neequaye never materialsed.

Caretaker boss McClelland — who managed Woodley for two years before taking up a scouting role with Chester City — took the job at Seel Park last week after Shaun Higgins resigned.

McClelland said: “I am happy with the result and particularly the fact we did not concede a goal. There is plenty of work to be done. I noticed the players’ fitness dropped in the final 15 minutes of the game. But it can't happen overnight and the effort was pleasing.”
