Lancaster City kept their faint play off hopes alive with a three goal first half set piece salvo that left Mossley with a second half mountain to climb.

Lee Rick returned to the side after missing the last game at Cammell Laird while Ben Richardson was also recalled to the starting line up, replacing Jordan Cuff and the injured Mark Haslam.

The Lilywhites got off to a poor start when the visitors took the lead with their first attack of the game after only three minutes. Cavell Coo conceded a free kick on Mossley's right wing. Zach Clark crossed the set piece, Martin Pearson came to punch clear but was beaten to the ball by a firm header from Lancaster captain Alex Kenyon.

Mossley finally found their feet and Tom Denton came close to an equaliser but his close range effort hit the side netting. The game settled into a midfield tussle with few opportunities for either side as the first half had a decided end of season feel to it.

Two minutes before the break Lancaster doubled their lead and it was Kenyon who again headed home this time meeting a right wing corner with a firm header that went in off the underside of the bar.

Worse was to follow in first half stoppage time when Mossley skipper Dave Young mis-timed a tackle in the box and Lee Dodgson converted from the penalty spot sending Pearson the wrong way.

The second half saw a much improved performance by Mossley and they dominated possession throughout the 45 but were only able to reduce the deficit by one goal, but a fine goal it was. Danny Queeley made a super angled run from left to right and whipped in an almost impossible looking low cross which Tom Denton hooked past City keeper Fearon for his 12th goal in a Mossley shirt.

Denton went close soon after but his effort flew narrowly wide while substitute Joe Heap had a couple of chances, the second from a free kick that flew narrowly over the bar.
