Mossley increased their lead at the top of the table to six points with a more than comfortable six goal mauling of Wakefield on Tuesday night.

The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Stadium provided a superb playing surface as for an hour Mossley ripped into the home side showing no mercy with some driving approach play and clinical finishing.

After a tentative opening Mossley took control of the game in the 10th minute. Sam Hind did well to win a right wing corner, Chris Rowney's flag kick swung to the back post where Keil O'Brien climbed highest to head back across the face of goal for Sam Hind to crash home from close range.

Six minutes later it was 2-0. Adam Mather chased a long ball from O'Brien down the left touchline, outpacing his marker before playing the ball inside to Kayde Coppin. Coppin then dribbled across the edge of the Wakefield box, faked to shoot with his right foot and then fired an unstoppable shot with his left into the top corner.

Mossley continued to dominate with the hard working Coppin and Hind closing down a harassed home defence and forcing them into countless hurried clearances which saw Mossley then drive forward from midfield once more.

The inevitable third goal arrived in the 22nd minute. Mark Haslam and Sam Hind worked a move down the right with the latter placing a perfect cross for Adam Mather arriving from the back post to lash home from six yards.

Mossley continued to dominate up to the break without further reward but the second half began with a three goal salvo in the opening six minutes.

Ash Young's long throw from the right was flicked on by O'Brien and Wakefield right back Dave Pickering, under pressure from Mather hooked the ball into his own net from the edge of the six yard box.

Pickering hadn't recovered his composure two minutes later when he attempted to pass across to his centre half who simply wasn't there. Sam Hind was though and he advanced before coolly slotting the ball past the advancing keeper from just outside the penalty box.

Just a minute after that it was 6-0 as Hind raced down the right wing outpacing the defence before cutting inside to set up Adam Mather for an easy finish.

For no apparent reason apart from having an already unassailable lead, Mossley then switched off and allowed Wakefield to impose themselves on the game for the first time.

The home side made a double substitution on 55 minutes that seemed to inspire them and they bizarrely controlled the remainder of the game as Mossley attacks fizzled out. The home side had had several near misses including hitting the woodwork before the deservedly scored a consolation goal three minutes from time with a superbly struck 25 yard screamer from substitute Chris Hitchings to round off the night's scoring.
