Mossley and Conference North big guns Altrincham provided great entertainment for the 200 plus crowd at Seel Park on Tuesday night. This despite the large number of players used, particularly by Lee Sinnott's Robins, as Mossley won the game by 4 goals to 2.

Altrincham, fielded a strong line up in the first half including 41 goal star striker Damien Reeves and early in the game the two division gap between the sides looked like it was going to be crucial to the outcome as Reeves clipped an early effort over the bar and the Mossley defence found itself having to do most of the work.

However, as the Lilywhites settled into the game, the home side started to gain the upper hand with Lewis Nightingale's probing runs causing much consternation for the Altrincham back line and the Lilywhites midfield beginning to dominate.

It was somewhat against the run of play when Altrincham took the lead on 18 minutes as new signing Kyle Perry hooked a shot over Russ Saunders from 15 yards and for a brief time the highly ranked Alty threatened to take control but the Lilywhites were soon back on top.

Mossley lost powerful forward Charlie Weir through injury and it was his replacement Kayde Coppin who scored a deserved equaliser in the 32nd minute as he latched on to Andy Keogh's precision through ball to dance around keeper Adam Reid and slot the ball into an empty net.

The second half threatened to be a mismatch as the visitors wholesale changes saw a number of their youth team take to the field and Mossley appeared for a while to toy with their now youthful opponents despite once again making gradual changes themselves.

Several chances and half chances went begging before the Lilywhites took the lead in the 71st minute as the returning Sam Madeley crossed from the left for Andy Hurst to to slot home from close range.

The Alty youngsters refused to roll over and scored a surprise equaliser just four minutes later as a right wing free kick was headed back across goal for Louis Brown to knock home from close range.

The goal sparked Mossley back into action and the Lilywhites dominated the remainder of the game finally regaining the lead on 84 minutes as Andy Hurst bagged his second goal of the game when he pounced to score after Madeley's shot was spilled by Alty trialist keeper Dan Lloyd.

The result was sealed close to the end as Sam Madeley chased a through ball and despite looking second favourite he got there before the advancing keeper to confidently fire home a fine goal and send the Mossley fans home with smiles on their faces.
