Mossley completed their pre season program with a goalless draw against Evo-stik League Premier Division promotion tips Chorley at Seel Park on Saturday.

Mossley were without last season's top scorer Sam Madeley who was unavailable on this occasion, but there was a surprise return to Mossley for striker Danny Broadbent who was expected to figure for Hyde again this season.

Chorley controlled the game in the first half with skipper Tom Baker pulling the strings in midfield but the Mossley defence was outstanding and extremely well marshaled by former Magpies keeper Russ Saunders, who dealt comfortably with everything the highly rated visitors could throw at him.

The second period saw Mossley come more into the game and started to create more openings as the game wore on with Broadbent, Kyle McGonigle and youngster Dougie Carroll all forcing saves from former Skelmersdale United keeper Sam Ashton.

In the end a draw was probably the fairest result but Mossley had been denied the best opportunity when Andy Hurst burst clear only to be fouled by ex Mossley man Keil O'Brien. In a competitive game O'Brien would no doubt have been red carded as the last defender but on this occasion he was given nothing more than a lecture and Callam Gardner rifled the resulting free kick narrowly over the bar.
