With new joint manager Lloyd Morrison now installed it was a very different look to the Mossley team that took to the field for the first home friendly against Chris Wilcocks's Glossop North End.

A number of Morrison's former charges arrived with him from former club Winsford United with six players from the Cheshire club in the starting line up and a further five appearing as second half substitutes.

Gone were the defensive frailties that had plagued the team in Monday's opener at Chadderton and the new look Lilywhites looked a constant threat going forward against a Glossop side which included a number of experienced former Mossley players.

Mossley took the lead as early as the 4th minute. Speedy striker Wayne Welbeck (brother of Manchester United star Danny) played a great through ball with the outside of his left boot and attacking midfielder Andy Keogh, a recent Droylsden target, raced through to fire an unstoppable shot past Glossop keeper Ben Proctor.

Glossop then went close on a couple of occasions, but the new look Mossley defence held firm and the Lilywhites increased the lead in the 22nd minute. Wayne Welbeck raced onto a through ball after the visitors back line were caught square. The rangy striker rounded Proctor but looked to have lost his angle. However, he cut back inside to calmly lift the ball into the net past two Glossop defenders who were desperately trying to cover on the goal-line.

The game ebbed and flowed before Glossop halved the arrears on the stroke of half time when they were awarded a penalty as two Mossley defenders collided with the inrushing Sam Hare. The ex Mossley midfielder dusted himself off and calmly rifled home the spot kick.

Both teams made changes after the break but Mossley rarely looked in trouble and made it 3-1 in the 53rd minute. Kayde Coppin's great run saw his powerful shot parried by the Glossop keeper only for Winsford's 28 goal hit-man Andy Hurst to react quickest to rifle home the rebound.

That was it for goals but there were some impressive and promising displays by the Mossley new boys and the old guard which augers well for the coming months.
