For the first hour, Saturday's game at Radcliffe Borough had little to offer in the way of excitement or goalmouth incident. Two winless sides both looking to secure their first maximum point hauls of the season slogging it out with the home side clinging on to a slender one goal advantage.

That one goal advantage had occurred in the 21st minute when ex Mossley player Tom Ingham hit an angled drive that Russ Saunders could only parry into the path of Caldon Henson who was left with a simple tap in.

Mossley huffed and puffed up the Stainton Park slope but barring a couple of goalmouth scrambles late in the half had rarely threatened an equaliser.

The second half saw Mossley attempt to press the home defence but the Borough back line held firm and the game looked to be over as a contest in the 64th minute when Carden teed up Danny White who screamed an unstoppable shot into the top corner from fully thirty yards.

If that wasn't bad enough, top scorer Sam Madeley was forced off with a knee injury in the 73rd minute and Mossley were forced to make their third substitution of the afternoon. Then, three minutes later a reckless challenge on Lewis Nightingale saw the Mossley midfielder forced off with an injury and following the ensuing melee, Boro's Josh Bardsley and Mossley's Kyle McGonigle were shown straight red cards, thus leaving Mossley to chase the game from two down with nine men and only thirteen minutes remaining.

What followed beggared belief. The free awarded for the foul on Nightingale saw Charlie Anderson step up and curl a great 25 yard free kick which beat Boro keeper Sam Andrew all ends up. 2-1 and suddenly game on!

In the 83rd minute Mossley won a corner on the right. Tom Pratt swung the ball over and debutant substitute Sam Halligan rose highest to loop a header beyond Andrew for the equaliser. Boro were reeling against the nine men.

Two minutes remained when another debutant substitute, Wayne Welbeck raced down the right and cut a great ball back for Andy keogh to volley home from ten yards to give Mossley the most unlikely of leads.

The referee indicated 6 minutes added time (in the end he played over 8 minutes). Boro now pressed forward with Mossley defending deeper and deeper as stoppage time progressed. Saunders made a fantastic save to keep out Matt Chadwick but when left back Danny Lambert hit a hopeful cross the ball deflected off the head of Dougie Carroll leaving Saunders stranded and the home side had somehow rescued a point in the most fortunate fashion.

High drama to the maximum. You really could not make it up. Bizarre!
