Mossley threw away the chance of making progress in this season's FA Cup with a slipshod performance in Tuesday night's Preliminary Round replay at ambitious Worksop Parramore's Sandy lane ground.

After taking a 25th minute lead the Lilywhites failed to capitalize on their advantage and fell to three defensively poor goals before pulling one goal back with an own goal in the dying seconds.

Mossley had central defender Charlie Anderson back from holiday and recent signing Louis Horne making their competitive debuts but they were unable to prevent the Lilywhites from defeat.

Parramore, as on Saturday were quick and strong in the challenge, sharp on the counter attack and fully deserved the result as they showed more desire to win the game, while Mossley were unable to make serious inroads against a strong and solid home back line.

Parramore were quick out of the blocks and appeared to have a shoot on sight policy in the opening period as several efforts flew off target after some smart approach play. Tom Pratt and Charlie Weir had both gone close for Mossley before the Lilywhites took a 25th minute lead. Lewis Nightingale whipped in a right wing corner that was bundled over the line by debutant Louis Horne.

Parramore hit back and equalised on 37 minutes when Russ Saunders saved well from Sam Smith but Lee Whittington was on hand to tap home the rebound from close range.

The game swung quickly from end to end but Mossley's play appeared stretched and their was little cohesion in midfield, though John Bennett was unlucky to see his 30 yard thunderbolt shot fly inches wide.

Mossley had Russ Saunders to thank for some excellent saves over the course of the game, but he was powerless to prevent Parramore from taking a 49th minute lead. Mossley overplayed on the edge of the home penalty area and Parramore recovered the ball and countered quickly with Callum Ward racing half the length of the pitch before squaring for Whittington to rap home.

Mossley attempted to press the home side but Parramore were still sharper in the tackle and effective on the counter attack while Mossley were less than convincing in possession and created very little in the way of real goalscoring opportunities.

The homesters sealed the victory in the dying minutes when another breakaway saw Whittington again on hand to score before with almost the last kick of the ball Parramore defender Brendan Cardwell looped a header into his own net under pressure from from substitute Dougie Carroll to give the final scoreline some respectability.

However, this was a poor performance by Mossley who in the end got nothing more than they deserved from the game and managers Peter Band and Lloyd Morrison will have lots to think about in the coming days as the side returns to League action on Saturday at current bottom markers Radcliffe Borough.
