Ashton United edged to a 2-0 'derby' win over Mossley at Seel Park on Tuesday with two second half goals.
In honesty the result could have gone either way as Mossley spurned several chances to take the lead before Ashton had even registered a shot in anger, but in the end the visitors substitute bench proved the stronger and goals by Martin Pilkington in the 62nd minute and Dale Johnson with the last kick of the match gave the visitors the win.
Mossley came closest when Tom Pratt spurned two good chances in the opening half and Australian substitute John Buceto struck a post in the second half.
A bigger concern for the Lilywhites were injuries to Tom Pratt and Mike Fish who were both forced from the field hurt in the closing moments of the opening half while on the plus side Mitch Bryant made a welcome return to action following his lengthy ban.
