Mossley went down 2-1 to last season's Northy West Counties League runners up Runcorn Linnets in Saturday's friendly at the Millbank Linnets Stadium.
Stand in rookie keeper Nathan Williams gited Linnets the opener when his short goal-kick was intercepted by Freddie Potter who calmly slotted home from the edge of the box.
After a disappointing first half the Lilywhites improved after the braek and after missing several chances equalised on 55 minutes when Brian Matthews' deflected effort found the Runcorn net.
However, the home side assured themselves the win on 70 minutes when Ben Halfacre headed home from a deep right wing cross.
