Mossley completed their pre season campaign with a hard earned 1-1 draw against Premier Division neighbours Ashton United at Seel Park on Saturday.
Chances were at a premium for both sides as defences generally dominated but it was the visitors who came closest first when Jay Gorton's powerful header from a corner was superbly turned away by Mossley keeper Will Jones.
The livelyy Ashton forwards were troublesome to Mossley and the visitors took the lead in the 38th minute. Jones did well to get down to block Adam Morning's angled shot but the ball broke to ex Ramsbottom and Darlington striker Lee Gaskell who hammered home the rebound.
It took Mossley only four minutes to draw level. With half time looming Omar McKenzie harrassed a defender into an error and won the race with Ashton keeper Paul Phillips to slot home at the near post.
Mossley dominated the second half for good periods but were unable to break through despite some great probing runs by Connor Bower and Steve Yarwood.
Ashton's only real chance of the half saw Gaskell race through a gap but put the ball wide of sub keeper Liam Flynn but also wide of the post and the scores remained level.
