Mossley suffered their sixth defeat in the last seven outings when going down 2-1 at play off chasers Colne on Saturday.

It was rough on Mossley who finished the game with ten men after substitute Sam Robinson had been dismissed but still dominated the second half.

The Lilywhites recent defensive frailties came to haunt them again as midfielder Jason Hill needlessly handled a cross in the 8th minute and home skipper Mark Ayers sent on loan keeper Cameron Mason the wrong way from the spot.

Mossley came on to their opponents and Tom Pratt and Hill had a shots saved and also claimed the ball had crossed the line in a goalmouth scramble but the Lilywhites then fell further behind on 25 minutes. A ball down Mossley’s right channel saw Tom Dean unfortunately lose his footing leaving Oliver Wood with a one on one with Cameron Mason which he eagerly snapped up.

Three minutes later Mossley were back in the game when Colne keeper Aghayare brought down the lively Darrhyl Mason and Kyle McGonigle rifled home from the resultant penalty.

Mossley went on to generally dominate the remainder of the match but the elusive equaliser wouldn't come.

On 57 minutes a debut was given to new signing Keenan Quansah who replaced Matty Burke and three minutes later Mossley lost Kyle McGonigle with a hamstring injury which necessitated a debut for another new signing in Danny Johnson. Both new boys showed much promise.

Mossley were reduced to ten men on 74 minutes when the third substitute Sam Robinson was shown a straight red card for a foolish two footed lunge at Lee Pugh.

The reduction in numbers galvanized the remaining ten men and Mossley pressed hard for an equaliser but frustratingly Colne held out. The Lilywhites best chance coming when Aghayare made a great save to deny Tom Pratt’s header and Callum Scullion’s powerful strike from the rebound slammed against the post.
