Mossley were a little unfortunate to go out of the Integro Northern Premier League Cup against Premier Division Nantwich Town on Tuesday night thanks to a superbly hit free kick three minutes from full time.

The Lilywhites gave a debut to goalkeeper Niki-Lee Bulmer and he acquitted himself well, including saving a penalty in his first appearance for the club. There were enforced changes also with Damase Kiwanda and Jordan Bove both reporting unfit. Andy Keogh returned to the starting eleven and diminutive midfielder Dale Jennings was given his home debut.

Mossley dominated the first half and had the first chance of the game but Matty Burke's effort was wide of the mark. Nantwich came close when Dave Walker fired across the face of goal.

The Lilywhites deservedly took the lead on 28 minutes. A poor clearance fell to Matty Burke and played in Dave Short, Short laid the ball to Andy Keogh on the right of the box and his low cross to the far post was slotted home by Mike Fish.

Short had a great chance to double the advantage soon after but blazed his first time shot over the bar.

If the first half belonged to Mossley the second half saw Nantwich decidedly in the ascendancy, especially after the 50th minute introduction of their usual team captain Josh Hancock.

Nantwich were awarded a 67th minute penalty when Touray appeared to take a dive over Bulmer's outstretched hand but justice was done when the new Mossley custodian made a fine save diving to his right to deny Hancock's well struck spot kick.

Nantwich were not to be denied though and equalised on 79 minutes when Touray's pinpoint cross was headed home by Dave Walker.

The visitors continued to press and when Hancock went down easily just outside the box, Theo Stair stepped up to curl an absolute beauty of a free kick into the top corner giving Bulmer no chance.

Mossley went in search of an equaliser but Andy Keogh was wrongly flagged off-side has he raced through for the last chance of the night and Mossley went out of their last cup competition of the season.
