Mossley fell to a fifth successive defeat in all competitions to mid-table Ramsbottom United at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

The Lilywhites attempting to put recent disappointments behind them had the better of first half chances but fell behind six minutes before the break when a quickly taken free kick by Alex Meaney saw ex Salford City star Gareth Seddon race through a gap to slot the ball past the advancing Liam Flynn.

Matty Burke had a great chance to equalise almost immediately but his effort flew over the bar from a great position.

Burke made amends just three minutes after the restart when he acrobatically volleyed home to equalise from twenty-five yards after John Bennett’s driven left wing cross had been headed clear into his path.

Mossley were level for just three minutes though as in Ramsbottom’s next attack Seddon set up Ryan Salmon who’s shot was blocked by Flynn only for the ball to break back to the ever dangerous Seddon who drove home from the edge of the box.

Mossley pressed forward in search of another equaliser and were denied a clear penalty when a certain Mossley goal was denied in a goalmouth scramble by a Ramsbottom hand on the goal-line, unspotted by the officials.

Ramsbottom soon stretched their lead to 3-1 with a solo effort by left back Jason Askew who skipped past tackles to race seventy five yards before slotting past Flynn as the Lilywhites were caught out by the breakaway.

Mossley pulled a goal back when Bennett’s deep free kick was headed into the path of substitute Mason Duffy who cleverly flicked home from close range to give the Lilywhites hope of a revival.

However, it was the home side who wrapped up the points with five minutes remaining when Ryan Salmon headed home from Askew’s left wing cross to compound Mossley’s current woes.
