Mossley dug deep to take a deserved point from Saturday’s tough trip to promotion chasers Trafford.

In a physical all action contest, Mossley bossed the first half and the homesters dominated the second but the result in truth could have gone either way and a draw was a fair reflection in the end.

Mossley gave debuts to latest signings, forwards Mitch Bryant (re-signed from Clitheroe) and Sam Livesey (on loan from Salford City) and the Lilywhites were a much more dangerous attacking proposition than in recent weeks.

Taking the game to their high flying hosts Mossley were quickly out of the blocks keeping Trafford pinned in their own half for lengthy spells. Livesey came close to giving Mossley an early lead but his looping header landed on the roof of the net while a powerful Mason Duffy effort was spectacularly turned away by home keeper Terry Smith.

At the other end Ash Woods headed over from a good position but it was Mossley who took the lead in the 34th minute. Callum Scullion’s right wing corner was headed home from six yards out by the unmarked Tom Dean.

Mossley comfortably held on to the break thanks to some disciplined defending but Trafford came out for the second half with all guns blazing.

Lee Neville headed over the bar from a good position and two efforts by Liam Brownhill flew narrowly off target as Trafford ramped up the pressure. Will Jones was called into action to make a good save from Aaron Burns but Trafford weren't going to be denied and found their equaliser on 63 minutes. Brownhill crossing from a short corner and Andy Langford looped a header beyond Jones’ reach from ten yards.

With their backs up Trafford went in searchg of a winner but Mossley defended solidly and Trafford weren’t able to create any clear chances.

It was Mossley who came closest to winning it late on as Tom Pratt and substitute Jordan Bove were both denied by Terry Smith saves while at the other end Trafford wasted a couple of free kicks from good positions and the score remained level.
