Mossley won through to the second round of the Integro Northern Premier League Cup on Tuesday when beating Glossop North End in a penalty shoot out following a 1-1 draw.

The match itself was very much a game of two halves, Mossley dominating the first half and Glossop edging the second.

Despite a number of personnel changes it was Mossley who looked far the brighter in the opening period with Elliot Harrison, Marko Basic and Jamie Matthews in particular causing the home side plenty of headaches. Glossop keeper Paul Phillips being far the busier custodian.

Mossley deservedly took the lead on 21 minutes. Matthews whipped cross from the right wing was headed by Rio Ahmadi into the path of Jack Tuohy who slotted home from close range.

Moments later Harry Brazel fired in a shot for Glossop that clipped the Mossley bar.
Mossley had chances to double the lead before the break but were comfortable on their solitary goal lead.

The second half saw Glossop come more into the game and though pressure was applied they struggled to find any openings against a strong Lilywhites defence. This changed on 62 minutes when Brazel appeared to dive in the Lilywhites box and Glososp were awarded a penalty. Ex Mossley man Gary Gee drove home from the spot.

Mossley went straight on the offensive and Phillips did well to claw away Matthews’ effort but the game hinged on a second Glossop penalty five minutes from time when another Glossop player took an easy tumble in the box. However this time, another ex Mossley player Matt Russell hammered his spot kick against the Mossley bar and Oliver Martin saved from the rebound to keep Mossley in the tie.

A late Mossley free kick saw Phillips save Tuohy’s effort and the game went to a penalty shoot out to decide the winner.

Tom Dean was first up for Mossley and he scored, Brazel then saw his spot kick saved by Martin only for Elliot Harrison to then have his shot saved by Phillips. Liam Wood then scored for Glossop as did Jack Tuohy for Mossley and Kisimba Kisimba for Glossop. Adam Latham (Mossley) and Connor Martin (Glossop) both bagged their spot kicks before the decisive shots. Rio Ahmadi blasted home his kick before Matt Russell missed his second penalty of the evening firing high over the bar to send Mossley through to the next round by 4 penalties to 3.
