In a scrappy game of few chances, Glossop edged to a 1-0 Boxing Day win over Mossley at Surrey Street.

Mossley were without Saturday’s hero Rio Ahmadi who was unavailable with Elliot Harrison his replacement in a changed formation with Mike Fish and Jamie McLellan returning to the squad on the bench.

In a totally forgettable first half, a healthy holiday crowd of 486 witnessed only one effort on target by either side and that was an under hit drive by Mason Duffy that Glossop keeper Paul Phillips gathered easily.

Mossley were the more threatening side but were unable to find a way past Glossop man mountain central defenders Adam Jones and Courtney Mappen-Walters.
The game livened up after the break as both sides searched for a breakthrough. Mo Ali cleared off the line for Mossley in a frantic goalmouth scramble which took several attempts to clear.

Meanwhile the Lilywhites were still struggling to make inroads in the final third as balls into the Glossop box were often over hit or cleared unchallenged.

The breakthrough goal came on 69 minutes a cross from Glossop’s right wing was powerfully headed home by Ben Deegan.

Mossley worked hard to find a way back into the game with substitute trio Mike Fish, Ash Leather and Danny McLaughlin all prominent in Lilywhites raids but Glossop continued to hold firm.

The Lilywhites best chances came in the closing minutes. McLaughlin was denied as he burst through the right channel and in the last minute Tom Dean’s powerful header from Leather’s left wing cross flew inches over the bar as Glossop held on to take maximum points.
