Mossley crashed to another heavy away defeat as they went down 5-1 at promotion chasing neighbours Hyde United at Ewen Fields on Tuesday night.

Hyde flew out of the blocks straight from the kick off and were a goal up inside two minutes with Mossley barely having touched the ball. A first minute corner was cleared but a second corner moments later saw the home side take the lead when a partial clearance was crossed back in and centre back Harry Coates powered home a header from eight yards.

The home side continued to ask all the questions as Mossley struggled to find a foothold and Oliver Martin made a great save to claw away Luke Porritt’s looping effort.

However, Martin was culpable on 26 minutes when one time Mossley loanee Dominic Marie chased a long ball. The Mossley keeper initially came then retreated, leaving Marie with a simple finish.

Rio Ahamdi almost pulled a goal back but was unable to get a clean strike and was denied by the out-rushing Peter Crook.

Mossley gave them selves hope on the stroke of half time as they halved the arrears. Liam Ellis burst from midfield before laying the ball off for Ahmadi who’s cross was deflected back into Ellis’ path and the Lilywhites striker found the corner of the net with a neat curling shot.

Any hopes Mossley had of a second half recovery were several hampered six minutes after the break when Logan Jeffs was harshly shown a second yellow card and the Lilywhites were reduced to ten men.

For a while the game evened out. Mossley had a chance to equalise from a set piece but Crook made a flying save to deny Dieter Downey’s well struck dead ball.

The game was placed out of Mossley’s reach in the 76th minute when a superb lobbed through ball by ex Mossley star Tom Pratt saw Hyde substitute Karl Jones volley home from ten yards.

With the game out of Mossley’s reach they conceded two more soft goals in the closing minutes. Keeper Martin’s indecision as to whether to come or stay left him in no-mans land as David Brown chased another through ball and like Marie was left with an easy chance to score.

A poor clearance by Martin soon after allowed Matthew Beadle to drive into the penalty area and he went to ground very easily under Tom Dean’s challenge and the same player got up to fire home the resultant penalty kick to give the home side a slightly flattering 5-1 victory.
